Police in Lilongwe have arrested two men in Chitipi following reports that they allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman.
According to Lilongwe police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the suspects—20-year-old Gedeon Samuel and 22-year-old Steve Robert—are believed to have been involved in the assault alongside a third man who is still on the run.
The incident reportedly happened around 8PM on Sunday, when the woman was returning from a local grocery store. She was allegedly ambushed by the three men, who dragged her into an unfinished house where the assault took place.
After reporting the matter to police, the woman was taken to hospital, where medical personnel confirmed she had been raped.
Following investigations, police arrested the two suspects, who reportedly admitted to the crime and claimed they were drunk at the time.
The search for the third suspect continues.
