Febbie Robert, a 40-year-old sugarcane seller from Lilongwe, has been arrested for faking her own kidnapping just to get K500,000.
According to Lingadzi Police, Febbie left home on May 13 to go sell her sugarcane like any other day. But a few hours later, she called her husband claiming she had been kidnapped with 20 other people, and the “kidnappers” were demanding K500K for her release. She even said the place she was being held had seen 14 people murdered.
Worried, her husband went straight to the police. After digging into the matter, officers discovered Febbie was actually chilling in Mchinji, at Kamwendo.
When they caught up with her, she confessed she made it all up.
