A 32-year-old man, Mustafa Charles, has been arrested in the South West Region after being suspected of stealing 22 cars from Success Civil and Auto Mobile — a vehicle rental company — and using them as collateral in shady loan deals.

According to police spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa, Mustafa reportedly borrowed up to K5 million from individuals, leaving the rented cars as security for the loans. Out of the 22 cars recovered so far, 15 belong to the rental company, while 7 were taken from private individuals. Two of the company’s vehicles are still missing as police continue their investigation.

He is expected to appear in court soon on vehicle theft charges, but more charges could follow if others come forward to report similar dealings.
