Malawi is mourning the loss of Yasin ‘Teacha’ Osman, a revered figure in the nation’s football history.
Osman passed away on April 21, 2025, at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after a brief illness, at the age of 75. His funeral took place in Chinkutika Village, Ntcheu, where he was laid to rest.

Osman’s football career was marked by significant contributions both on and off the field. He began as a player and later transitioned into coaching and administrative roles. Notably, he served as the Technical Director for Mighty Wanderers Football Club and held the position of General Secretary for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) during two separate terms between 1996 and 2007 .
In 1970, Osman made history by becoming the first Malawian footballer to be transferred for a fee of £100, moving from Wanderers to Bata Bullets (now FCB Nyasa Big Bullets). This transfer intensified the rivalry between the two clubs, a legacy that endures in Malawian football .
Beyond his professional achievements, Osman was known for his mentorship and dedication to nurturing young talent in the sport. He is survived by his wife and two children.
