Tropical Cyclone Jude Weakens Over Southern Malawi, But Risks Remain

The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has confirmed that Tropical Cyclone Jude is currently centered over southern Malawi, particularly around Phalombe, with a reduced intensity and a central pressure of 1001hPa. The system is now moving southwestward at 13km/hr, marking a slowdown in its progression.

Despite weakening, southern Malawi remains the most affected area, with risks of heavy rains, strong winds, and potential flooding. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert, as weather conditions may still shift unexpectedly.

The cyclone, which originated in the Indian Ocean, had earlier affected parts of Mozambique and Madagascar, and while its strength has diminished, precautionary measures remain essential for those in the impacted regions.
