President Lazarus Chakwera has congratulated Malawi’s Afrobeat star Tay Grin following his recognition at the Africa Day Awards held in the United Kingdom. The rapper, who also serves as Malawi’s Cultural, Youth, and Tourism Ambassador, was honoured with the “Excellence in Tourism and Culture Promotion Award” by the Diaspora Economic Forum.
In a statement, the President described Tay Grin’s win as both “priceless and patriotic,” noting that the artist has been instrumental in promoting Malawi as an investment and tourism destination, especially to the diaspora audience.
“This honour resonates with our national goal of accelerating economic growth through tourism,” Chakwera wrote, urging Malawians to join him in celebrating the rapper’s achievement.
The award ceremony took place on the evening of Africa Day, recognising individuals making significant contributions in their countries and abroad.
