Robert Francis Prevost, born in the USA in 1955, is the new leader of the Catholic Church — now known as Pope Leo XIV.
He’s the 267th Pope and the first American to ever hold the role.

Before this, he worked in Peru as a bishop from 2015 to 2023 and even became a citizen there. He’s held big roles in the Church over the years, including overseeing bishops and helping lead Catholic matters across Latin America since 2023.
He also used to lead the Order of Saint Augustine, a group of Catholic priests and brothers, for over a decade.

Pope Leo XIV speaks several languages — including Spanish, Italian, and French — and is known for connecting with people from different parts of the world.
His election is seen as a big deal and a sign that the Church is becoming more global and inclusive.
