Lilongwe is gearing up for a competitive Saturday night as Miss Malawi 2025 and the Maso Awards go head-to-head on the same date.
Speaking to The Slice, Miss Malawi spokesperson Stephen Mdala didn’t hold back, describing the night as “theatrical tension” for the capital.
“Lilongwe must enjoy a little theatrical tension,” he said. “Miss Malawi arrives with elegance, structure, and refinement — an event shaped by months of preparation and a clear commitment to excellence.

Across town, another gathering will also be happening… some may call that bold, others might call it an interesting experiment.”
Stephen added that some events naturally “define the city’s heartbeat,” while others “hope to be heard over it,” 👀
But the Maso Awards Managing Director, Augustine Mukisi, maintains there’s no beef — just two major industries flourishing.
“Preparations are going well. Both events are big, but different,” Mkhize told The Slice. “About 30% of our audience overlaps, the rest don’t. For arts lovers, Maso Awards is the place to be. For pageantry lovers, Miss Malawi is the place to be. It just shows our entertainment industry is growing.”

With two big shows on the same night, Lilongwe is guaranteed one thing: a battle for attention.
