Kabula Festival Preps Hit 90% as Organizers Take Media on Site Tour

Organizers of the Kabula Festival say they’re 90% ready as the event draws closer, with international headliners Sun-El Musician and Prince Kaybee expected to arrive next week.

Media practitioners were taken on a tour of the festival grounds in Chileka on Friday, where Creative Director Prince Chikweba and Project Manager Desire Mtosa shared insights on what to expect.

“This is our first festival, and we’ve prepared as best as we can,” said Chikweba. “We’re aiming to give people a full experience by bringing a beach-style festival to Blantyre. We’re targeting a crowd of about 1,000 so that the vibe stays controlled and everyone enjoys.”

Chikweba also revealed that the team has been working closely with locals in the Chileka area by offering jobs during the setup process.

“We wanted to make sure the surrounding communities benefit from the festival too,” he added.

Project Manager Desire Mtosa emphasized the diverse lineup, which includes 36 local artists performing across different genres and forms.

“We’ve got music, poetry, fashion showcases, and cultural dances. And we’ve placed special focus on making sure the event is safe—security is a big priority for us,” she said.
