K40 Million Film “Welcome to Maula Prison” Premieres May 2

Malawian film production company 4Kaya Filmz Inc. is set to premiere its latest project, “Welcome to Maula Prison,” on May 2, 2025, at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe. The film will subsequently be screened in Blantyre at Mount Soche Hotel on May 3 and in Mzuzu at Chisanga Complex on May 4, with all showings commencing at 7 PM. 

The production, which incurred costs exceeding K40 million, aims to provide an authentic portrayal of life within Malawi’s Maula Prison. Producer Kendall Kamwendo expressed gratitude to the Malawi Prisons Service for granting access to the facility and supporting the project. 

“Welcome to Maula Prison” features a diverse cast, including Tumpe Mtaya, known for his role in “School Days,” as well as Amos Msekandiana and Desiree Namachotsa. The film seeks to shed light on the experiences of inmates and the complexities of the justice system.
