Cold, Windy Weather Expected This Week – According to Azanyengo

The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, has released the weather forecast for the week of Monday, 23 June to Saturday, 28 June 2025.

For most of the week, expect partly cloudy and relatively warm days, with cool early mornings across many areas.

However, from Saturday night (28 June), Malawi will start experiencing Chiperoni conditions — a type of cold season weather known for chilly temperatures, strong winds, thick clouds, fog, and occasional light drizzles. The Chiperoni pattern will begin in the Southern Region and slowly move north, driven by a cool and moist south-easterly air mass.

Additionally, Mwera winds—strong, gusty winds common over large water bodies—are expected to affect Lake Malawi starting Saturday night.

Advisories for the Week:

– Keep warm and avoid using charcoal burners indoors, especially in houses without proper ventilation, to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

– Fishermen and lake users should take precautions when strong winds occur.

– Drivers should be cautious during foggy conditions as visibility may be poor.

The Department urges all Malawians to stay alert to updates and take the necessary safety precautions.
