The Catholic University of Malawi’s Student Union has issued a stern warning to students involved in running or engaging with anonymous Instagram pages cunima.confession and cu_behinddoors.
The Union says it has received several complaints about the pages spreading false and defamatory content targeting fellow students, leading to emotional distress and reputational harm.
In a statement, the Union reminded students that such actions amount to cyberbullying and defamation under Malawi’s Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act, which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a K2 million fine.
It further revealed that investigations are underway, with some individuals already allegedly identified and facing possible disciplinary and legal action.
Students have been directed to immediately stop posting, liking, or sharing any content from these accounts and to delete all offensive material.
