Airtel Malawi has revealed that widespread internet issues experienced by users on Monday and Tuesday were caused by yet another deliberate act of fibre vandalism.
Many customers took to social media to complain about slow or inaccessible internet services, unaware that the disruption was due to a damaged fibre line — part of what Airtel describes as a recurring problem.
“This is not an isolated incident,” Airtel said in a public statement. “We suffer multiple fibre cuts every month, and what’s alarming is that these deliberate attacks are happening mostly on Airtel’s network.”
The company stressed that these acts don’t just affect Airtel — they impact students, families, businesses, and anyone trying to live their digital lives in Malawi.
“These are attacks on all of us,” the statement read. “From students studying online to families staying connected and businesses trying to grow.”
