In a coordinated operation between Malawian and U.S. security agencies, six individuals suspected of drug trafficking were apprehended at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe on Saturday afternoon – reports Nation Online.
The arrests occurred around 3:30 PM as the suspects disembarked from an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
A seventh suspect, a Nigerian national residing in Lilongwe, was also arrested at the airport while awaiting the arrival of the six individuals.
Authorities believe the group has connections to international drug trafficking networks.
National Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya and Homeland Security Minister Ezekiel Ching’oma have confirmed the arrests to Nation Online.
