Malawian international student Blessings Chiwosi has represented the country at the World Cultural Exchange Carnival hosted by China Agricultural University in Beijing.

The Carnival, which celebrates global cultures through traditional foods, music, and dance, provided Chiwosi — who is studying Development Studies — a chance to spotlight Malawi’s hidden gems to an international audience.

Chiwosi and his team served up true Malawian flavors like nsima with chambo, nyemba, and thelere, and kept the vibes alive with performances like manganje dance. They also showcased Malawi’s iconic tourism spots, traditional artifacts, and even highlighted local exports such as Mzuzu Coffee and Chombe Tea, which caught the attention of many visitors from Africa and Asia.

Speaking about the experience, Chiwosi said it’s crucial for Malawians to take every opportunity to market the country:
“It is sad that most people don’t even know where Malawi is and what it possesses. We must brand and rebrand ourselves to attract investment and boost our economy.”
