Tumpe Mtaya, famously known as Phwedo, has been arrested in Lilongwe on allegations that he had sexual relations with a minor.
Police spokesperson for the Central West Region, Foster Benjamin, confirmed the arrest to Times 360 Malawi, as reported on their Facebook page, stating that the incident allegedly occurred on February 18 this year, following a meeting between the actor and the girl at a drama event held in Lilongwe on February 7.
Phwedo is currently in police custody at Lilongwe Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities say they are awaiting medical examination results to proceed further with the case.
The actor rose to fame through the film School Days, and he is also set to appear in the upcoming movie Welcome to Maula Prison, which is expected to premiere next month.
